A license is required to handled claims in the state of Texas. Texas resident adjusters must have a resident license. Adjusters who reside in a state that does not require a license may also opt to use Texas as their “designated home state” (DHS) for licensing purposes. This course fulfills the examination requirement for applying for the license.
Adjusters whose legal residence state is not Texas, and who are not applying for a DHS license in Texas, should obtain their home state license first. Reciprocity agreements with most states will eliminate the requirement of the licensing exam. If your residence state does not have a reciprocity agreement with Texas, this course will fulfill the exam requirement for your non-resident license, after you have received your residence license in your home state.
Certain qualifications may exempt an adjuster from the exam requirement, such as holding a CPCU or AIC designation.
For more information on the type of license you need and whether you need this course, please consult the Texas Department of Insurance directly.
